Crushing Fate is a diptych that depicts 2 hands, one crushing and one catching flowers. These flowers represent the childish imagination, glow, and overall outlook on the world. The first hand that is crushing the flowers is when you first want to grow up, when you push away the things that make you feel like a child, and when you want to grow up way too fast. The second hand is trying to catch the remains, once you realize the mistake you made of trying to grow up too fast. I was inspired by Maureen Kroep's work Surrealist Still Life with Flowers. Her use of paint splatters that reflect the flowers in the main focus inspired me to also combine the splatter effect with flowers.
